“Mot Ngay Moi” (“A New Day”) Restaurant is a combination among two styles of popular meal and dish meal µ la carte – dishes according to the required menu. This is a unique popular restaurant and there are few restaurants with this style in Hanoi at present.
This restaurant still maintains traditional dishes of previous people in Hanoi such as: Chinese braised pork, roast pork, simmered meat with pepper, sour and sweet fried pig ribs, liquor of water morning glory with fruit of dracontomelum, poor foods, and eggplants and salt… And our customers will feel that they are having dinner cooked by their mother at home.
Previously, this restaurant was named Rice – Beer – Seafood Restaurant and it was established in 1997. This year had the worst Asian financial crisis in the history and Vietnam was also seriously impacted by such financial crisis. Then, the policies on tightening money, strictly managing foreign currencies and gold were applied. At that time, our family was trading in gold and silver according to the form of private enterprise but we had a legal problem as we were concluded to break the State’s law so our assets were went away and we had to close shop.
Our situation was very difficult. Our capital was very little and how we could maintain our daily life without poverty. And then, we decided to open a family-popular restaurant and after each day of selling food, our family could use the redundant food. Because we also used such food for our daily life so selected the best raw materials and all raw materials must be the first types.
The food was directly cooked by my mother, my father kept customers’ vehicles and children worked as the waiters and waitresses. Afterwards, this restaurant is developed so we have to employ many other people but quality of dishes and their original taste are still maintained as before. Nowadays, “Mot Ngay Moi” Restaurant at No.72 Ma May Street is a famous restaurant, not only many Vietnamese know about it but also many customers in foreign countries highly appreciate and introduce it to their friends in the whole world via social network and travel books such as Tripadvisor, lonely planet book…
And we will maintain our business motto forever: We hope that a person will come to our restaurant for thousands of times but we do not hope that thousands of people only come to our restaurant for one time. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all customer for supported us during tens of years.
Good eats in the heart of Old Quarter. Ask to sit on an upper floor outside to gaze on the streets below. Average prices with beer, curry & spring rolls setting you back about 130,000VND.
Go directly to the kitchen choose what you want eat : cheapest option ;) really good food, lot of choices and beverages are also cheap ! I recommend that place to everyone !
Real vietnameese cuisine, very good price! All dishes very taste and nice prepared. If you are looking for traditional vietnameese restaurant this is the place worth to visit during staying in Ha noi.
Great local food with a slight European twist - a must if you (like me!) hated the coriander they usually put everywhere. They go easy on the hardcore spices here, the result is wonderful.
Best restaurant in Hanoi in terms of value for money. Basic interior however the place is to the point - great traditional food, fast service and good drinks. Been here twice and was impressed.
This is an excellent Vietnamese restaurant for tourists. Clean (you'll understand how important it is when you explore Vietnam), very tasty and cheap considering the location. Great staff.
good food. The portions are not too big. Had one dish with rice &fried seafood mushrooms & onions which was good. The highlight was surely the fried aubergines with a breathtaking soy garlic sauce.
Good place for tourists, with native Vietnamese food. Fast service, clean room and friendly waiters. Liked Hanoi fried rolls, worth a try!
Good restaurant with good prices in Hanoi's Old Quartier. Nice staff and very yummy Hanoi spring rolls. I especially recommend the stewed pork in clay pot. Awesome!
Super yummy food - I do recommand Ha Noi style rice noodles with grilled pork - and very friendly and helpful staff!
